How to play

Doodle Reef is a cosy crayon aquarium you grow one coin at a time. Tap the water to sprinkle in food; the nearest fish darts over, gulps it down, and leaves a coin behind. Tap the coin to pocket it, then spend your coins on more fish, prettier tanks, and gadgets that feed for you. There is no timer and no way to lose: just a reef that gets busier the more you tend it.

Tap the surface and a flake drips down; a fish darts over, eats it, and leaves a coin bobbing above. Tap that to bank it. Feed, collect, repeat: that loop is the whole game.

Every meal is a coin, so a busy tank of hungry fish mints them fast. Coins float up and drift away if you leave them too long, so keep scooping, or hand the job to an auto-feeder.

Food flake: tap anywhere in the water to drop one. Tap as fast as you like, there is no limit; fish only earn while there is food to chase.
¢Coin: pops up wherever a fish finishes a meal. Tap to bank it; ignore it and it drifts up and fades.
⚙3Auto-feeder: a per-tank gadget that drops food and banks the coins from its own food.

Let a feeder take over
Tanks start hands-on: you tap to feed and tap each coin. Install an auto-feeder in a tank (from 600 coins in the first tank) and it feeds the fish and collects the coins from the food it drops. It only banks its own coins, so anything you sprinkle in by hand is still yours to tap. Level it up to feed faster, and from level 5 it drops food right onto a waiting fish so none is wasted. It runs only while the reef is open: there is no catch-up for time away.

Meet the fish

Each tank stocks five species, cheap to dear. Pricier ones cost far more up front but pay out far more coins per meal. Every extra fish you add to a tank also costs a little more than the last, so filling one is a real project. A tank holds up to twelve fish. These are the starter tank's five; every biome has its own.

Nine themed tanks

Your reef is nine tanks, each a different biome with its own species, decorations, water and palette, from a Goldfish Bowl through a Coral Reef and Kelp Forest on to Volcanic Vents and a Cosmic Abyss. The first tank is free; the rest unlock in order at rising prices. Later tanks cost far more to stock but pay out far more too, so each new one is a fresh, bigger goal.

Boost each tank

Every tank has its own decorations and its own upgrades, and both lift only that tank.

Decorations come four to a tank and stack, each adding to the coins earned there. Every biome themes its own four, but the boosts are always the same:

Reef Coral (a cheapest, starter piece): +10% coins in this tank.
Sea Urchin (a Kelp Forest piece): +15% coins.
Treasure Chest (a Volcanic Vents piece): +20% coins.
Bubble Machine (the top piece, in every biome): +30% coins.

Upgrades come three to a tank: Tastier Flakes (bigger coins per meal), Speedy Fins (fish swim faster) and Big Appetite (fish eat quicker). Each level you buy costs more than the last, and they cost more in the pricier tanks too.

Finish the reef

Flip on sell mode and tap a fish to get half its price back, handy when trading up. And there is a finish line: fill every tank, deck each out with all four decorations, max its auto-feeder and max all three upgrades, across all nine tanks, and the reef is complete. Everything (coins, fish, tanks, decorations and upgrades) is saved in your browser, waiting right where you left it.

Tips

  • Reinvest early: a second fish pays for itself fast, and it compounds from there.
  • An auto-feeder frees your hands; a level-5-plus one never wastes a flake. Hand-feeding on top still earns, and those coins are yours to tap.
  • Stack a tank's decorations with its upgrades: the boosts multiply.
  • Collect (or automate) coins before they drift off, especially in a busy tank.
  • Later tanks are pricier but pay more, so keep banking toward the next biome.
